what? This isn't the first episode.. This is a skit the boys made during the middle of the seasons out so far. I forget the exact season but i am positive this was never ever the first episode!
Unofficially, this is the first episode. Call it a pilot, if you will. After they made Cannibal and Orgasmo, Trey and Matt made this as a christmas card and sent it around to various friends and contacts in hollywood. It got a lot of attention, and this is what got them the deal with Comedy Central.

This was the second episode, however accurately named the pilot. The first unofficial episode was "Jesus vs. Frosty", an animated skit made by Matt and Trey @ Univ Colorado, some Fox exec saw it, asked Trey and Matt to make a revision so he could get it signed. This is the pilot version (although when i first saw it on the internet, santa called Jesus a "Bas***d, not Jesus calling himself one". The video was later put into the show "A Very Crappy Christmas" as a skit the boys made. So, in fact, this was the second South Park Episode.
