In actuality the word "*^^@" did not origionate in Germany... It origionated in the Brittish Isles Circa the late 1400's along with the physical expression of "Flipping the Bird". The French soldiers of the Hundred Year's war would at times capture Brittish Longbowmen and "remove" their middle finger, inhibiting them from firing their bows in later skirmishes after being set free. When the Brittish soldiers caught word of this from the freed soldiers they were infuriated. At every susequent battle thereafter the soldiers would extend their middle finge high in the air while saying "I can still pluck the yew!" "Plucking the yew" refers to firing a longbow, after the type of wood it was most commonly made of in the British Isles at that time.
The soldiers then took the term "Plucking the yew," while extending their middle finger into their daily lives. It soon evolved into "*^^@ you," and was deemed it's sexual orientation from the nature of the middle finger looking like that of an erect %!!:#...
Therefore the Germans had very little in the dvelopment of the word "*^^@."
