More like a person who doesn't know a think about dogs... He (stupidly) did three things that dogs read as threats: 1. Gabbed the dog's throat (placed his hand on it yes, but same thing in the dog's eyes.) 2. He looked into the dog's eyes. 3. Tried to make him self bigger. (He was starting to stand up, which made him loom over the dog.) Altogether in the dog's eyes, he was threatening the dog and the dog naturally struck back at him. =)
